Workflow Planning & Conceptual Design
The first stage is to develop a complete understanding of the client's requirements, budgets, and workflow. This stage is where the initial design concept is committed more firmly in drawings and socialized throughout the client's organization for greater input. Taken into consideration are goals, strategic plans, budget limitations and other variables. Stakeholders would include the client's management team; inclusive of engineering, operations, IT, production or any other areas that can be affected by the scope of the project.

Broadcast Technology Consultation
Our consulting engineers work with your team to develop best of breed technology planning and migration to new digital workflows. We accomplish this through technology comparisons, risk assessment and various studies. Facility move planning, migration studies, and RFP document development are some of the consultative areas we can help our clients.

Facility Planning Consultation
Our design team works with your architects, engineers, consultants and contractors to address design and infrastructure issues such as workflow, space layout, HVAC loads, power requirements and circuiting, sight-lines and ergonomics, acoustics and lighting. Our engineering provides the expertise to conceptualize, research and provide specifications and/or recommendations for workflow solutions, system design, equipment selection, room configurations, equipment heat loads and ventilation, power requirements, grounding schemes, power quality and conduit paths.

ASI will collaborate with and share information with architects, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers or others that are involved in designing and constructing the physical plant. The deliverables are conceptual block diagrams outlining technologies designed to provide personnel with tools they require to support the client's operational requirements. Individual block diagrams will be provided for each subsystem, and a master system block diagram will detail the interfaces among these subsystems.

Project Management
The key ingredient is the consultative process and collaboration between our clients and our Senior Project Managers. The Project Manager is the primary conduit for information between the client and the ASI Project Team. Our PMs have skills in Systems Design & Engineering, Project Management, Installations and Operations. All of this is combined with business acumen allow our PMs to participate in the highest levels of strategic situations. The PM insures both timely and accurate transfer of information.

ASI uses an online collaboration service that allows users to store, manage, and share project documents from any Internet connection—thus enhancing team productivity and reducing costs. This online work environment integrates a secure project hosting service with CAD-related software, tools, and services from industry leaders. Using this powerful service, ASI will connect with the client's project team anytime, regardless of organizational or geographical boundaries. The ASI team provides the comprehensive skills, attention to detail and industry experience to deliver each project to an on-time and on-budget conclusion.

Detailed Design Engineering
During the detailed design phase and based upon information gathered in initial planning sessions, ASI prepares a comprehensive Systems Design Package, which includes the preparation of detailed electronic systems drawings and specifications. The engineering documentation includes:

  • Video, Audio, Control, Sync, Time Code and Network functional diagrams
  • Rack and Console Elevations
  • Patch bay (video, audio, and data) layout and assignments
  • Custom electronic interface assemblies
  • Control interface and detail diagrams
  • Fiber connectivity
  • Wire and termination lists
  • Custom panel drawings and label work
  • Artwork, labeling, and signage
  • Facility check out and testing plan

Console Design
ASI applies innovative, proven concepts to console and casework design. All consoles are validated by individual console elevation drawings. Specific working and operational requirements are analyzed and reviewed to establish design criteria and finalize specifications, addressing both technical and ergonomic requirements. Once these concepts are agreed upon, a detailed specification for the consoles is developed. These details and specifications include:

  • Reach and access limits
  • Intra-space relationships
  • Man-machine relationships
  • Sight line limits
  • Inter-space relationships
  • Workflow adjacencies
  • Operational and functional requirements
  • Equipment access requirements

Equipment/Materials Procurement and Logistics
ASI's provides equipment as part of a complete turnkey package, through our extensive SI reseller relationships. Our Procurement services include purchasing, tracking and expediting, material receiving, inspection, and warehousing, equipment and material quality control, In-house and on-site equipment inventory control.

With ASI acting as the source for your design, installation and equipment procurement, we can better coordinate equipment deliverables with installation schedules enabling us to act quickly to changing situations in equipment availability and delivery. This helps avoid potential hurdles in the project because we can act immediately in re-focusing our team.

Systems Assembly
All cable fabrication is performed utilizing programmable, automated stripping equipment. Cables are tested prior to installation into racks or patch-fields.

The cables with similar source and destination locations are bundled and tagged at ASI during this pre-fabrication phase. All equipment, consoles, cable harnesses and panels are fully staged in ASI's Northvale facilities prior to packing and shipping to the facility site.

ASI will mount equipment into equipment racks at our integration facility to the greatest extent possible. Patch fields are wired and the cable bundles are neatly wired and laced by professional technicians.

Custom Fabrication
We have the highest standards and practices when customizing materials for a client's project. We design and build custom panels, Broadcast Service Panels (BSPs) and special monitor mounts. From custom cable lengths, connectors and jack fields to custom mounts for lighting, cameras or monitors, our staff works with the client to understand their needs and workflow in order to propose and build a system that meets the customer needs and ASI's exacting standards.

ASI will work with the console vendor to ensure the successful design and implementation of the consoles. Fabrication of the facility's consoles utilizes approved design and engineering documentation, quality materials and proven manufacturing techniques. Casework is manufactured according to methods and processes standard to custom cabinetry. Utilizing professional level joinery and finishes as required for each specific unit results in rugged, durable and aesthetically pleasing operator consoles and support casework.

Systems Shipping
ASI prepares the pre-installed system for shipping. A detailed inventory of all equipment, materials, loose cables, installation manuals and all other documentation is performed. Equipment that does not need to be rack mounted is palletized and wrapped. The equipment racks are blanket wrapped by professional electronic movers and loaded onto moving vans with air ride suspensions for delivery to your facility.

On-Site Installation
Once the system is on-site, our installation team is there to make certain that the equipment arrived safely to the site. Upon arrival at the site, all boxes, equipment, cabling, racks, consoles and materials are re-inventoried by ASI to ensure that the shipment arrived at the site complete and undamaged.

The racks and other equipment are brought into their respective locations. Equipment racks are mounted to the rack bases and the loose ends of the cables are run out to the respective areas and rooms. The other ends of the cables are wired to the sources and destinations and again neatly wired and laced.

System Testing, Training, Commissioning and Project Acceptance
In the final stage, the ASI team implements all of the necessary steps to complete all test procedures to insure the system meets its technical specifications and insure the client is satisfied with its performance. Upon successful test, the vendors commission their respective systems. In addition, training strategies are implemented in this stage. ASI will train the client's technical personnel in the ASI design and review all documentation.

The project is complete only after the client is completely satisfied with the installation and with as-built documentation and training. It is only then that we are ready to formally hand over a facility. As part of our package, we will provide all design documentation created in both hard and soft copy formats. This is inclusive of all AutoCAD drawings and an as-built Bill of Materials.

ASI will also create complete operations and training materials on the system and associated equipment. Finally, prior to signoff, ASI will conduct operational training on the system and if required, will coordinate specific equipment training with the vendors to insure that all appropriate client personnel are fully versed on the operations and maintenance of the system. Once this is complete to the Customer's satisfaction, ASI will obtain sign off and acceptance of the system. ASI's system warranty begins after our client has accepted and signed off the project.
