HD Upgrade for Origin Digital

New York, NY, April 1, 2009

As a global video applications service provider, Origin Digital eliminates the complexities associated with delivering content to any screen. For over 10 years they have been working with consumer brands, content publishers, advertising agencies, social media communities and broadcasters to extend video content to their respective customers. Their powerful software and professional services provide a cost-effective, scalable, and open platform for video based solutions.  When it came time to upgrade their Weehawken Operations Facility from an SD to a full HD plant they looked to Azzurro Systems Integration (ASI).

Origin Digital decided to undertake a fairly large, highly challenging project. The plan is to build a new on-air media production and management facility converging both traditional media operations with on-line and IP based delivery that will be housed on multiple floors of their East Coast based Tier 1 data center. Origin’s live, 24/7 environment requires the facility stay completely operational with no service interruptions while the build-out, integration and test occurs. As a result, ASI will initiate construction and integration of the new technical facilities on one floor along with all the equipment associated with regular operations housed in the separate central equipment room. Once phase 1 is 100% operational, ASI will begin work on a redundant backup media production room located on a separate floor within the data center complex. The concept is not only to create a new state-of-the facility, but to allow improved workflows and efficient operations to enable Origin to deliver the best media experience for clients and their end users.

The project involves the design and integration of a High Definition 3Gbps 1080P format facility with embedded audio. The goal is to acquire the highest quality standard possible to future proof the facility as much as possible. Within the media production environment, ASI will consolidate the operational processes into multi-functional workstations. Each workstation will possess the ability to access all resources necessary to perform any required function, allowing any of the 15 production stations planned to control and manage any of the Origin Digital media services products, as well 24/7 support stations fully integrated into Origin’s 24/7 Client Services Support infrastructure. These workstations can act as stand-alone, or be combined to create multiple process scenarios focusing primarily on the delivery of on-air quality broadcast and production. To expand the monitoring abilities available within each workstation, a multiple image wall display will be created to enable confirmation of both the status and quality of ongoing services. The multiple image display will be visible from all workstations within the Control Room and be completely customizable in real-time to support multiple live and on-demand media operation scenarios.

On the creative side, Azzurro will be integrating two Final Cut Pro edit stations providing two independent stations, each capable of creating unique content, as well being utilized during on-air broadcast or for the production and distribution of fixed duration content. The ability to edit both High Definition and Standard Definition digital content will be placed within each station.

“ASI is excited to be participating in this cutting edge project and we feel that the complement of our years of experience designing and building broadcast production and facilities, and our understanding of new and developing technologies connects well with Origin Digital’s vision of integrating high quality HD content with the services they provide to their customers, stated Marc Bressack, EVP of Azzurro Systems Integration.
